Los Angeles’ tree canopy and access to green spaces is distributed unevenly. Low-income neighborhoods have significantly fewer trees, green spaces, and less shade. The Chief Forestry Officer requested support with analysis of existing tree canopy and opportunities for new planting based on available tree wells. This project made GIS-informed recommendations to achieve the Mayor’s Green New Deal goal of a 50% increase in tree canopy in disadvantaged communities by 2028.
